Advent Worship Series: Imagine
December 1, 8, 16 & 22
Advent is a four-week season of anticipation and preparation, leading to Christmas. During this season of darkness and light, we’ll explore the theme “Imagine.” Imagine peace. Imagine hope. Imagine no war or violence or hunger or poverty. Imagine no malaria. Imagine an outpouring of goodwill and compassion and love. Advent invites us to imagine! Join us next Sunday as we kick off this series!
Together – still! And it’s not too late!
Earlier this month we celebrated Stewardship Commitment Sunday, but it’s not too late to turn in your stewardship commitment card. If you have not yet done so, please take some time to make your commitment of prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness for the year 2014. We are hoping to receive a card from everyone who attends worship regularly, so that our ministry and mission will continue to grow. If you have questions about stewardship, please do not hesitate to be in touch with Allen or Sara.
Disciple Bible Study continues
Sundays at 1 pm | 509 Forest Ave.
Bob Moore is leading a Disciple Bible Study class, a high-commitment, 17-week series covering much of the Old Testament. Participants will complete assigned reading six days a week and attend a 2-hour class once a week. If you’d like to learn more, email Bob Moore or attend a class.

Advent Conspiracy: Turn your Christmas upside down.
Here is the key to discovering the true meaning of this season: Worship fully. Spend less. Give more. Love all. Replace consumption with compassion and honor the one whose birthday we celebrate. We challenge you to stretch in order to make a meaningful gift to help people in need. This year’s Advent Conspiracy gifts will be directed to two causes: Imagine No Malaria and Hope House. How will you respond?
While We Wait: Living the Questions of Advent
We'll offer this three-week small-group Advent study Sunday mornings at 9:15 am, beginning December 1, at 509 Forest Ave.; and Thursday evenings at 6:30 pm, beginning December 5, at the parsonage (31 Sheffield St).
Neighbors Helping Neighbors
We’re collecting laundry detergent and toilet paper for Hope House, our new transitional housing project for asylum seekers. Next time you’re shopping, pick up these items and bring them in with you next week.
Share the Warmth
Over the coming weeks, please bring in winter hats, gloves, and mittens (handmade or purchased, but new, please) – all sizes: children, youth, and adults. We're gathering them on a clothesline at 185 High Street, and then we’ll distribute them to neighbors in need during the cold winter months.
Community Drumming Circle
Monday, December 2 | 7 pm | 509 Forest Ave.
Come and explore the spiritual and creative possibilities of drumming in community, facilitated by Portland musician Todd Glacy. This group meets on the first Monday of every month. If you have your own drum, please bring it – if not, come anyway… We have drums to share!
